Intrigued by a blank piece of paper as a child, Ruth
has been creating art for over 50 years. With experience in graphite, colored pencil, watercolor, and oil, Ruth then
discovered acrylics and has focused the past 30 years in that media. This site is evidence of that experience in the
pieces shown from the last 10 years or so of her work.
About the Art
Working in primarily Acrylic, Ruth often uses only 3 primary colors plus white. Subjects
are rarely drawn on the painting surface, but rather pieced in like a puzzle. Using stretched canvas, canvasette, gessoed
board, watercolor paper, or wood, the artist creates her work from simple forms to detailed finished pieces. A blocking
in of basic color and value is the first step, followed by washes to brighten or darken areas as needed to form contrast and
shapes. The rest of the process continues the second step with addition of detail strokes that more exactly define the
elements of the subject.
Photography and graphite are other mediums used frequently by the artist for reference, study and finished artwork.
The artist hopes to display the joy of life that reflects knowing God and using the gift He has given her.
Proverbs 3: 5,6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your
ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.
